2月17日「天使の囁きの日」
February seventeenth,
Day of the Angel's Whispers ("Tenshi no Sasayaki no Hi")
King
Oooh, it's so cold! Did you know today is called the Day of Angel's Whispers?
Ace
That's about Diamond Dust, right? Even I know about that. Anyway, it sure is cold.
King
Well, then. Can you tell me what diamond dust is?
Ace
That's that. You know. That thing that you send for a ten year wedding anniversary.
King
Aaah, the "Sweet ten Diamond".
Jack
Just saying, but- That's something completely different!
Notes:
- The 17th of February is the Day of Angel's Whispers because of a festival in the town Horokanaichou on the Northern Island Hokkaido. In 1978, a record of minus 41.2 degrees Celsius was recorded on the 17th of February, hence the choice for this day, but it has the festival has been established in 1994. The Angel's Whispers refer to "Diamond Dust" which in turn refers to a ground level cloud composed of tiny ice crystals. (source (Japanese))
- The marriage reference is because in Japan there is this idea of sending a present with diamonds to your partner for your 10 year wedding anniversary. This is called "Sweet Ten Diamond" (スイート10ダイヤ). There is even a website baring the name of the custom (here) but keep in mind not everyone does it.
